Thomas Farrell & Amanda Stacy

Thomas Farrell, my 4th great grandfather, and father of Lucinda Farrell was born in County Cork?, Ireland about 1817.  He appears in Essex County New York in 1840, specifically in Wilmington where he lived until 1863.  He married Amanda Stacy (Stacey) about 1838.  Amanda was born in Shelburne, Vermont on Feb 6, 1818.  They had several children, John, Melinda, Lucinda, and Thomas.  I have seen a report of up to nine children.

Thomas joined the Union army on November 17, 1863.  He was part of the 2nd New York Veterans Calvary.  Unfortunately he died on Jan 11/12, 1864 at the main Calvary depot in Giesboro, D.C.  He reportedly died of "Disease".  The Giesboro Calvary depot supplied over 200,000 horses for the union army.  Thomas was likely part of the building of the infrastructure of the depot.  Below is a excerpt from the muster record of the 2nd New York Veterans Calvary.  Thomas is buried at the US Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Amanda died April 25 1876 in Lincoln, Vermont.

1863, to serve three years; died of disease, January 12,1864, at

Giesboro, D. C.
