Thomas joined the Union army on November 17, 1863. He was part of the 2nd New York Veterans Calvary. Unfortunately he died on Jan 11/12, 1864 at the main Calvary depot in Giesboro, D.C. He reportedly died of "Disease". The Giesboro Calvary depot supplied over 200,000 horses for the union army. Thomas was likely part of the building of the infrastructure of the depot. Below is a excerpt from the muster record of the 2nd New York Veterans Calvary. Thomas is buried at the US Soldiers' and Airmen's Home National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.
Amanda died April 25 1876 in Lincoln, Vermont.

I'm also descended from Thomas and Amanda Stacy/Stacey Farrell. Question: what source gave you the birthplace of County Cork? Do you have a town name?
ReplyDeleteCounty Cork was mentioned in another researcher's post. It is unfortunately unreferenced. Do you have anything else on either of them?
ReplyDelete(thought I had replied, but don't see it...steep learning curve!) Re Thomas -- I have probably the same information you have: pension file, census records, a few court records, tombstone photo. I'm glad to see your photos of Geisboro!
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'd love to find the Irish county, I'm glad to learn it's unreferenced. Probably won't write it in yet.
I'm descended through daughter Melinda Farrell (Kinney). The Stacy line is another dead end. I find John Stacy/Susan(na) Burt, and that's it! It's been a slow search. Good to know others are working on these lines...
Yes, that's what I have as well. I also have John and Susan. Other researchers report farther back but I haven't looked at it critically yet. I will get to it on this blog eventually. Keep in touch cousin!
ReplyDeleteJust happened upon your post. Eons ago, I was doing research on my lineage, though I haven't touched it in years. I am descended through Thomas and Amanda's daughter Susannah E. (m. Jonas Higgins).
