Peleg Peckham, my wife's 4th great grandfather and father of Mary Peckham (Barker) was born in Newport, Rhode Island colony in 1739. The northern area of Newport in which he was born had been set aside from the rest of Newport a few years earlier and was incorporated as Middletown in 1743. He went on to spent his entire life in Middletown. On August 1, 1772 he married Elizabeth Smith. Elizabeth was born on August 6, 1753 also in Middletown.
