Mary Ann Higgins, Mother of Henry W. Kenny, and my Great Great Grandmother was born in Vergennes, VT. in 1869. Vergennes was the first city chartered in Vermont, and is the smallest in population. Above is a 1890 rendition of the city. Vergennes was notable for having the largest iron works in the US in the early 1800's and helped produce the fleet that defeated the British in the war of 1812. Her father William was a carpenter born in Canada. Mary wed Edward J. Kenny in 1888.
By 1900 they had moved to Rutland, VT and they raised four children, Edward, Ethyl, Henry, and George. Mary died at only 47 of Tuberculosis.
