William Peckham & Phoebe Barker

William Peckham, my wife's 5th great grandfather and father of Peleg Peckham, was born September 3, 1706 in Newport, Rhode Island Colony.  This area of Newport was known as "The Woods" and later became Middletown.  William's father was a farmer and left his farm to his son in 1764.  I infer from this that he was himself a farmer.

He married Phoebe Barker on January 22, 1736.  Phoebe was born November 14, 1717 in Newport.  She was from the same Barker line as my wife's direct Barker paternal line.  Phoebe's father, James, was also the father of John Barker (of John Barker and Rebecca Hoar).   49 years after James' death, and four generations later, two of his great grandchildren married and had Nathaniel C Barker.

They had three children, William, Peleg, and Phoebe.

William died April 12, 1784 and Phoebe died November 10, 1757 (40 yo) both in Middletown, RI.  There are several Barker and Peckham burial grounds on the Island but where William and Phoebe are interred is still unknown.
