Walker Clayton & Margaret Hudson

Kit Carson - Native of Madison Co, KY
and contemporary of Walker and Margaret
Walker Clayton, my wife's 4th great grandfather and father of Cecelia Clayton, was born in Virginia abt 1795.  There is a report of a Walker Clayton in the 16th Regiment Virginia Militia during the 1812-1815 time period.  Walker would have been about 17 years old in 1812.  I haven't found 100% evidence that it was the same Walker Clayton.  He moved to Clay county, Missouri prior to 1819 when, on Sept 9, 1819 he married a girl from Madison County Kentucky, Margaret Peggy Hudson.  She was born in 1799.

They lived in Clay county, Missouri where they farmed and raised a family.  Their children where, John, Lucy, Simon H., Cecelia, Mary and Samuel.

Margaret had been raised in Madison County, Kentucky.  She was born in 1799, 14 years after Madison county was formed from part of Lincoln County, Virginia, and 8 years after Kentucky was formed and admitted to the union as the 15th state.

Margaret died at about age 50, before the 1850 US census.  She is mentioned in her father's will of March 1853 as deceased, the children being named as beneficiaries of "two beds, one horse, saddle and bridle, and three head of cattle valued at one hundred and five dollars.....  the tract of land that Margaret resided on at the time of her death... valued at one hundred dollars".  An image of one page of the will is pictured to the left.

Walker died sometime after 1850.  I have not found either of their grave sites.
