Thomas Jenkins

Church in Llandissiliogogo
Thomas Jenkins was born in the parish of Llandissiliogogo, Cardiganshire, Wales in about 1851.  He was one of ten children.  The family lived in Llandissiliogogo on a 100 acre farm until 1858 when they moved to a larger farm (300 acres) located in Llananth Parish.

Here is a description of Llandissiliogogo written in 1833

"LLANDYSILIO-GOGO (LLAN-DYSILIO-GOGOV), a parish in the lower division of the hundred of MOYTHEN, county of CARDIGAN, SOUTH WALES, 18 miles (W. N. W.) from Lampeter, containing 1430 inhabitants. This parish, which is situated on the shore of Cardigan bay, and is intersected by the turnpike road from Cardigan to Aberystwith, derives its name from the dedication of its church to St. Tysilio, and its adjunct " Gogo," or more properly "Gogovau," from the numerous caverns worn by the sea in the rocks which line this part of the coast.. "
[From Samuel Lewis's A Topographical Dictionary of Wales 1833]

Thomas left home about 1870 to begin a career as a Currier which is someone who helps in the process of producing leather from hides.  In the early 1870s he married Harriet (unknown last name) who was born in Pembrokeshire, Wales about 1846, and they raised two children, Thomas and Mary Henrietta.  By 1881 they lived in Llanwenog Parish and stayed there until at least 1891.  I have not found when Thomas died but the 1901 Wales census lists him as a widow and I have not found him thereafter.
