Edward Bruce, Father of Esther Verona Bruce, and My Great Great Grandfather was born in Vermont in Aug of 1862. His childhood was spent in Northfield in central Vermont where his father worked as a Day Laborer. He had a sister Julia, and brothers Harley and Eli. At 18 he lived just west of Northfield in a small town called Bridgport.
On March 28th 1888 he married Rosa B. Howard in Pittsfield, VT and eventually moved to Castleton, in Rutland County Vermont.
To the left is the old newspaper building in Rutland shown in the late 19th century.
They had several children, George, Frank, Wilbur, Esther, Kenneth, and Robert. In 1910 he worked as a Sawyer in Castleton. He contracted Typhoid Fever in Sept 1917,and although he survived, he lost his son Frank to the disease.
By 1920 he and Rosa had divorced. She remarried but he remained divorced and unmarried until at least 1930. He passed away not long after.
